Daniels, Maryland was once a thriving mill town on the banks of the Patapsco River. After it was flooded by Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972, the town was completely abandoned and left to crumble. Over the weekend, I went to see it for myself.

Kinja'd!!!

First, I found the ruins of St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church, decades older than the rest of the town. It was built in the 1800s and stood until it was struck by fire and burned in September of 1926. A couple of derelict cars (Chevrolets?) now rot in the churchyard, beside the old cemetery.

Closer to the river, I found what's left of the road into Daniels, now almost completely overgrown and partially swallowed by the river.

Beside the old road is what's left of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, abandoned after sustaining heavy damage in the '72 flood.

A little further down is a pile of mangled automobiles swept away by the flood waters. The cars have rusted away into nothing.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Can anyone identify the cars by the stone church? I couldn't find any telltale markings to give me a clue, and they're in pretty bad shape.

It's kind of hard to tell from that angle. I thought that the bumper in the second to last picture was from '60-'63 Ford Falcon but it's slightly off.

I was thinking either '61 Chevy Bel Air or '63 Ford 300, but neither quite seems to fit.

It's still on most maps. You can get there from Patapsco State Park.

Stone church is The Saint Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. White church is The Pentecostal Holiness Church.
